morning’s bright
the light is ringing
faces tingling
nothing’s changed
the sun’s walking shadows
from street to street
on pearly strings
their heels glowing
so quietly you can
barely hear
where the amber sea
licks the pavement
life starts thawing
urban meadows
knuckling their eyes
stretching dried-up skins
crackling, cackling
beneath the porch
winter’s leaving
winter was leaving
but you couldn’t wait.
